2003 Philmont Scout Ranch Longhorn Council Contingent CSP 2 piece featuring Waite Phillips
First known Philmont ContingentCSP 2 piece Patch with Waite Phillips image was produced highlighting the Scouting philanthropist and the familiar Philmont Gateway seen during 2003. The top part - 2inch by 5 inch - CSP issue highlights Waite as he is seen in his portrait … wearing a cowboy hat, bandana and vest as if he was about to ride horseback to Ponil. He wears an expression of satisfaction in front of the Philmont Gateway looking forward to 20,000 Boy Scouts who enjoy the camp each summer.
    The first known
2003 Philmont “Dining Hall” Patch Portrait contingent patch
was designed for the familiar landmark that each Philmont contingent visits when it returns from the mountains with a voracious appetite. For the Scouts about to start their Trek, it is a last chance at solid food before Pemican Bars and MRE type meals were the main course for 10 days. The 2 inch by 5 inch (top) 7 color CSP patch was designed by taking a picture during 2003 at a specific spot below the Dining Hall looking towards the Tooth of Time and then turning it into patch form. The artist called this a “Patch Portrait.”
Its CSP Guide designation is Longhorn SA46 from the CSP Guide
2004 Philmont Scout Ranch Double H Trek Charter Year Contingent Patch
First known Philmont Double H Contingent Patch (very limited number). Scouts of Longhorn Council were offered a chance to participate in a Philmont Double H Trek during its Charter Year in 2004. A local unit had several Scouts drop out and could not meet its minimum Double H Trek quota for the new Philmont property. Our Troop had several Scouts join to “make” the Trek and ensure the experience for all those wishing to try this first year program. There were no real trails, you made your own trek and all Double H participants were required to use GPS technology.
The bottom portion of this 2 inch by 4 inch 6 color patch was designed to combine with the regular Longhorn Council CSP to complete a 2 piece patch. “LCBSA” represents Longhorn Council BSA and Charter Year accentuates how this was the first year of all Double H Treks. Because it was the Charter Year, and because the Double H is no longer a Philmont program, the value of this collectible will only grow far into the future.
The Philmont horse brand found in the New Mexico sun, the Double H logo of the tree and moose and the flag of the State of Texas make this a unique Philmont collectible.

Upon completion of the Cavalcade, Scouts departed on a religious pilgrimage to Santa Fe as part of the requirements for the Ad Altare Dei Award. The 6 color CSP represents the Tooth of Time Philmont Cavalcade destination and the top portion of San Miguel Mission in Santa Fe, NM.

For the Scouts about to start their Trek, it is a last chance at solid food before Pemican Bars and MRE type meals were the main course for 10 days. This Patch Portrait was designed according to a picture taken right below the Scout with a knapsack (Normal Rockwell) statue at Philmont.
